How do you explain cross stitch to non-cross stitching people? Do they get it or do they say “Oh, right.. you do knitting then (or sewing, or needlepoint)"?
I forgot to answer this earlier. I generally explain that its a type of sewing which you make up a picture from little crossed stitches. It also depends on who is asking. If, for instance, it is drunk men on the train from London to Glasgow, I tend to ignore them and hope they go away lol.
Some people get it and I've shown a couple of people how to stitch. I also have shown a lady on the Aberdeen to Glasgow train how to start a thread without using a knot.
